ChatGPT Now Builds the Calculator Your Website Used To. Give It Your Real Numbers.

GPT-6 and Intelligent UI began rolling out in ChatGPT's everyday Chat tab on Oct 7, 2026, so a cost question can come back as a comparison or a working estimator. A generated calculator still needs local prices, and we expect it to name the businesses that publish them in plain text.

ChatGPT can now build the cost calculator a local business used to build to win a search, so your pricing page has a new job: supplying the numbers. We expect a generated estimator to borrow price ranges, service areas and lead times from pages it can read, and to name the businesses that publish them in plain text. "Call for a quote" leaves that calculator running on a competitor's numbers.

The evidence landed on Oct 7, 2026, when OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 and Intelligent UI in ChatGPT. Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise subscribers started getting GPT-6 Sol that day, and OpenAI said Free and Go users would start getting GPT-6 Luna the next day, 9to5Mac reported. Answers can now arrive as charts, forms, side-by-side comparisons and small tools built in the chat, like a savings calculator, The Decoder reported the same day. The models first launched Sept 22 for ChatGPT Work, Codex and the API, not the everyday Chat tab.

TL;DR

  • OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 with Intelligent UI to ChatGPT on Oct 7, 2026, so a cost answer can now arrive as a comparison or a working estimator.
  • A generated calculator still needs local inputs, and we expect it to borrow them from businesses that publish prices and booking in plain text.
  • Our bet: by June 30, 2027, a business with a plain price range on its site will be at least twice as likely to be named in a ChatGPT cost answer as one that says "call for a quote."

Key fact: Between Aug 8 and Oct 6, 2026, ChatGPT sent 457 visits to 42 of the sites we run, and none landed on a pricing, cost, quote or calculator page.

What changed in ChatGPT on October 7?

OpenAI's announcement doesn't say how sources appear when answers arrive as charts, comparisons or tools, Search Engine Journal's Matt G. Southern noted on Oct 7. He argued calculator and converter pages might be challenged by ChatGPT-created tools.

Big brands already wire in their own numbers. Radisson's ChatGPT app, built with Accenture and launched July 28, 2026, shows live rates when a traveler types @RadissonHotels, then sends them to Radisson's website to book. OpenAI profiled it on Oct 7. A local roofer won't build an app, so its website is what the model reads.

Why will a generated calculator need your numbers?

Because a formula without local prices is a guess, and most of the sites we run don't publish prices. Of those 457 ChatGPT visits, 49% landed on a homepage, most of the rest on a specific offer page, and zero on a pricing page. They converted at 3.7% (17 conversions), against 2.8% for Google organic search in the same window. It's a small channel for us (3.4 ChatGPT visits for every 100 from Google organic) and a thin sample, so read it as an early signal.

In a study 8ight.AI published on Oct 5, 2026, ChatGPT cited at least one local business's own website in 68.1% of answers to "Who is the best {trade} in {city}?", the Better Business Bureau in 38.7% and government or licensing sites in 25.1%. That's vendor data: 8ight sells AI-visibility services and used the API with web search, not the consumer app.

We have skin in this too: our free tools at upforgeapps.com, including an ecommerce margin calculator, face the same pressure.

Is this only about ChatGPT?

No. Comscore's Q2 2026 AI Intelligence Report, released Sept 22, put ChatGPT at 50% of AI prompt volume in June, down from 70% in January, with Gemini at 30% and Claude at 11%. It's panel data, and PPC Land flagged inconsistencies in it on Sept 26. Google's AI Overviews already introduce your business in their own words. Plain-text prices feed all of them at once.

What should your cost page say now?

Put these five details in plain text on your cost page, never inside an image, PDF or email-gated form.

Detail What to write
Price A real range and what it includes
Service area Every town or county you serve
Lead time How soon most jobs start
Price drivers The two or three things that move the number
Next step A quote or booking form that works on a phone

This is the part your site's second audience of AI agents came for.

Should you buy ChatGPT ads instead?

There's a paid lane. OpenAI opened a self-serve Ads Manager beta with cost-per-click bidding on May 5, 2026. Verified US businesses can bid, with a suggested start of $3 to $5 a click, and ads show to Free and Go users below the conversation, PPC Land reported that day. On Oct 5, OpenAI announced a visual ad format and more measurement partners. The ads start testing in the US later this month with an initial group of advertisers, TechCrunch reported that day.

Watch the clicks. TrafficGuard reported on Sept 30, 2026 that across 40,021 ChatGPT ad clicks, invalid-click rates for 47 enterprise advertisers ranged from 0.1% to 34%. That's vendor data: TrafficGuard sells click verification. We'd fix the page first. An ad that lands on a page with no price pays to repeat the problem.

How can you check your business in 10 minutes?

  1. Open ChatGPT on a free account if you can (ads show only on Free and Go accounts), and on the web leave the Layout and visuals setting on. Ask your best customers' money question, like "How much does a new roof cost in Cincinnati?"
  2. Then ask: "Build me a roof cost estimator for Cincinnati." Note whether it builds a tool, whose numbers it uses, whether it names you, and whose ad sits under the answer.
  3. Check your pricing or service page for the five details above, in plain text.
  4. Make sure your Better Business Bureau listing and state license record show your current name, phone and website.
  5. In GA4, open Traffic acquisition and find the AI Assistant channel, which Google added on May 13, 2026. Google files AI Overviews and AI Mode clicks under Organic Search, so treat that number as a floor.

Where is this headed?

  • Our bet: by June 30, 2027, a business that publishes a plain price range will be at least twice as likely to be named in ChatGPT's cost answers as one that only says "call for a quote." Starting in November 2026, we'll ask ChatGPT 20 fixed local money questions each month and log who's named and whether their site shows a price.
  • We think that by March 31, 2027, fewer than 40% of ChatGPT visits to the sites we run will land on a homepage, down from 49% from Aug 8 to Oct 6. We'll publish the split in April 2027.
  • By March 31, 2027, we think ChatGPT will show a local service business's own quote or booking tool in an unpaid answer to someone who never asked for that business by name. That monthly run will catch the first one.

If your best page still says "call for a quote," our web development team can turn it into the page these tools borrow from.
